During sleep
Flowstrips may support the feeling of easier nasal breathing at night. They are not a treatment for sleep apnoea or other sleep-related breathing disorders.

Flowstrips are external nasal dilators applied to the outside of the nose. They are designed to mechanically widen the nasal valve area and may make nasal breathing feel easier. Unlike decongestant nasal sprays, they contain no active pharmaceutical ingredients. They can be worn during sleep, exercise or everyday activities.
The perceived effect depends on the individual anatomy and the underlying reason for restricted nasal breathing.
Both versions work purely mechanically—they differ in design, adjustability and reusability.
| Criterion | Classic Flowstrips | Flowstrips Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Integrated springs gently lift the nasal sidewalls | Two adhesive patches and a magnetic band pull the nasal sidewalls outwards |
| Application | Apply one complete strip | Apply two patches and attach the magnetic band |
| Support | Straightforward all-round option | Potentially stronger and more adjustable opening |
| Reusable | No, single use | Magnetic bands are reusable; patches are single use |
| Variants | Beige and transparent | Four magnetic bands for different nose sizes |
| Best suited for | Sleep, everyday use and exercise | Users seeking stronger mechanical support |
| Pack contents | 30 nasal strips | 60 patches for 30 applications, four magnetic bands and one applicator |
For many users the classic Flowstrips are enough. Flowstrips Pro are worth a look if classic nasal strips do not open enough subjectively or if you want a more adjustable fit.
Clean and completely dry the skin. Position one adhesive patch on each side of the nose.
Select one of the four supplied sizes that fits the nose comfortably.
The band connects magnetically to both patches and gently pulls the nasal sidewalls outwards.
For exercise, the manufacturer recommends applying the patches approximately 10–15 minutes before training. The recommended maximum wear time is 12 hours.

The mechanical opening may make nasal breathing feel easier. It should not be presented as guaranteeing improved endurance, oxygen uptake or athletic performance.
An externally applied option for people seeking temporary mechanical support for nasal breathing without decongestant ingredients.

The basic principle of external nasal dilators is plausible: mechanically widening the nasal valve area can reduce resistance to nasal airflow. Many users notice the physical opening immediately.
However, this does not automatically translate into measurable improvements in sleep, oxygen uptake or athletic performance. Research on external nasal dilators is mixed, and current systematic reviews do not show reliable improvements in objective sleep-apnoea outcomes.
Flowstrips should therefore be viewed as a mechanical breathing aid—not as a treatment for sleep apnoea, chronic nasal disease or other medical causes of restricted breathing.
Flowstrips was developed in Germany by Timo Hilgert. According to the company, he is a sports scientist and personal trainer specialising in breathing during exercise. His experience working with everyday clients and professional athletes informed the development of the products.
Flowstrips can be a straightforward thing to try if your nose feels tight especially when inhaling and gently opening the nasal sidewalls makes breathing feel easier. If nasal breathing is restricted long term, the underlying cause should still be checked by a doctor.
